Welcome to Good Shepherd!
About 2000 years ago, a man named John was washing people in the Jordan River in Israel, calling all men to turn from their obsessions and prepare to meet their God. Then, to the joy of all men, John saw Jesus coming to be baptized as well, and declared, ‘Look! It is the Lamb that is God, Who takes away the sin of the world!’ As if He was just another human being, burdened with the ignorance of God and offensiveness to other humans, Jesus of Nazareth submitted to John’s washing too!
This was the first step in the public work of Jesus and His Holy Spirit. That work continues at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Baton Rouge! In this congregation you will find a group of people who are burdened with ignorance of their Creator and saddened by the hurt we cause others and that others cause us. The happy remedy to our problems is the same Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world!
Jesus’ Spirit still comes into our midst. He still takes away our sins; and if ours, then the sins of all men: the whole world! In the same gentleness by which He attached Himself to men who admitted they were very far from God, Jesus still comes to us as God in weakness! Through His Word, through Holy Baptism, and through the Holy Supper of Bread and Wine, His Body and His Blood, the Holy God has such mercy that the saints at Good Shepherd pray with confidence to God as their own dear Father!
We invite you to join us as we call on the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit to have mercy on us and on all men!
Please attend the service times listed above or contact us to speak about the certain guarantee that the Lamb of God has taken away your sins too!
